Find a Direct Primary Care Doctor in Charlotte, NC

There are three ways to get a DPC doctor here: an in-person practice near you, a virtual membership you can use anywhere in North Carolina, or a free match from us.

The Short Answer

North Carolina doesn't keep a list of direct primary care (DPC) practices. A DPC agreement isn't insurance under state law, so practices don't register anywhere (G.S. 58-3-8). That leaves you three good ways to find a doctor:

1. Get matched by us

Tell us your ZIP code and what you need. We'll suggest practices near you, help you check which are taking new patients and explain the costs. It's free.

2. Go virtual with Akos MD

Your own doctor and care navigator by video, phone or message, any time of day. From $79 a month for one person (as of November 2026).

3. Search on your own

Use DPC Frontier's independent map, then call the practices yourself. Use our questions below so you compare the same things.

In-Person or Virtual DPC?

Both are memberships for primary care with no copays for visits. Neither is insurance. The difference is where you see the doctor.

What DPC Costs Around Charlotte (November 2026)

We looked at the fees that six Charlotte-area DPC practices list on DPC Frontier's map on November 2, 2026. Here's what they charged, set beside Akos MD's virtual membership.

MembershipCharlotte-area practices (listed fees)Akos MD (virtual)
One adult$49 to $120 a month. Some practices charge less for younger adults (for example, $49 for ages 18 to 39 and $69 for ages 40 to 64)$79 a month
CoupleUsually two adult fees, so about $98 to $240$110 a month
Family$145 to $185 a month for family plans$125 a month
Sign-up feeAbout $100 one time, where listed ($99 to $100)None listed

This is a small sample of fees the practices published themselves. It isn't a full survey, and it doesn't include practices that ask you to call for prices. The couple row is our estimate from the adult fees.

If you have an HSA-eligible health plan, you can now pay DPC fees from your HSA, up to $150 a month for one person or $300 for a family (IRS Notice 2026-5). Health sharing isn't HSA-eligible coverage, so this only applies if you keep a high-deductible health plan.

Virtual DPC Anywhere in North Carolina: Akos MD

Akos MD (AkosDirect) is the virtual DPC membership we work with. You get your own care team, a physician and a care navigator, and you can reach them 24/7 by video, phone or message. There are no copays for visits (Akos MD).

What's included

Unlimited virtual visits and messaging, prescription renewals, help with referrals and bills, and a patient portal with your records. Your doctor can order labs and imaging at low prices.

Prescriptions

Prescriptions go to Akos MD's pharmacy partner, which delivers. Many common drugs on its list cost $0 for members. Others are discounted.

Price (as of November 2026)

$79 a month for one person, $110 for a member and spouse, and $125 for a family. No insurance is needed to use it.

What it can't do

It can't examine you in person, give shots or run tests in an office. For those, you'd go to a local clinic or urgent care and pay for that visit.

Many people pair a DPC membership with a health sharing program for bigger bills. Ask us how that works and what it costs for your household. Read our healthshare guide first if you're new to it.

Important: Health care sharing ministries are not insurance and are not regulated as insurance. Sharing of medical expenses is voluntary and not guaranteed. Review each organization's guidelines for details, limitations, and state-specific notices.

We may receive compensation from some organizations we recommend. This does not change our evaluation of how they work.

Finding a DPC Doctor: Common Questions

Is there a list of every DPC doctor in Charlotte?

No official one. North Carolina doesn't register DPC practices, so there's no state list. DPC Frontier keeps an independent map that practices add themselves to. Or tell us your ZIP code and we'll suggest practices near you.

Can I have a DPC doctor without visiting an office?

Yes. Akos MD is a virtual DPC membership: you reach your own care team by video, phone or message, any time of day. It costs $79 a month for one person (as of November 2026). You still need an in-person doctor or urgent care for exams and tests that need hands-on care.

How much does a DPC doctor cost around Charlotte?

In the fees Charlotte-area practices listed in November 2026, adult memberships ran from $49 to $120 a month, and family plans from $145 to $185 a month. Some practices also charge a one-time sign-up fee of about $100.

Do I still need health insurance or health sharing with DPC?

Yes, you need a plan for big bills. DPC covers primary care only. It doesn't pay for hospital stays, surgery, specialists or the emergency room.

Does it cost anything to get matched?

No. Our help is free, and you don't have to join anything. We may be paid by some organizations we recommend, which doesn't change what we tell you.
